Una orientación de la Psicología en América Latina en lo general y de la Psicología Comunitaria Latinoamericana en lo particular ha realizado esfuerzos, sobre todo desde la última mitad del siglo pasado, por romper con la tendencia trazada principalmente desde Estados Unidos. No obstante, las raíces de esta tendencia tienen tal profundidad que la reflexión crítica sobre ella nos abandona a mitad del camino. Es menester tocar fondo, llegar hasta el ¿Principio-final? de la raíz del problema y desde esta disposición resultaría obligado plantear la pregunta ¿Ha habido simetría en el trabajo comunitario? El planteamiento de esta pregunta debe tener un efecto provocador y entonces tendría que arrojarnos a un dilema ético de la investigación científica tradicional, que nos tendría que obligar a cuestionar entre otros asuntos, el mito de la relación horizontal entre los integrantes de la comunidad y el o los psicólogos comunitarios. ¿Por qué tenemos que hablar de una relación horizontal? Sin duda, porque no existe. No puede dejar de acompañar al tema anterior, el del dilema de la producción de saber, cuya racional solución haría posible precisamente una real relación horizontal. Por otro lado, la discusión sobre las respuestas a los cuestionamientos anteriores nos habría de colocar en situación de una reflexión que a estas alturas resulta anacrónica. Y así nos encontramos de nueva cuenta: al principio de esta reflexión, en el punto de partida ¿Ha habido relaciones simétricas en la comunidad? Pero con la frescura de otra “anacrónica” proposición.

It cannot fail to accompany the previous topic, the dilemma of the production of knowledge, whose rational solution would make possible a real horizontal relationship. On the other hand, the discussion on the answers to the previous questions would have placed us in a situation of reflection that at this point is anachronistic. And so we find ourselves again: at the beginning of this reflection, at the point of departure, have there been symmetrical relationships in the community? But with the freshness of another "anachronistic" proposition.
