The objective of the study was to determine the relationship between addiction to social networks and victimization among adolescents from the province of Tungurahua in the city of Ambato. The research started from a quantitative approach, with a non-experimental cross-sectional design, descriptive and correlational in scope. For this, 518 adolescents between 12 and 18 years old participated, with 53.7% women and 46.3% men. For data collection, two instruments were used: the Social Network Addiction Questionnaire (ARS) by Escurra and Salas of 2014 and the Victimization Scale through mobile phone and internet of Saavedra and Rojas of 2022. The results show a positive, significant but slight relationship between addiction to social networks and victimization. In addition, statistically significant differences are found between TikTok and Instagram users compared to those who do not use these networks. Specifically, users of the two social networks show higher levels of addiction and Instagram users reveal higher levels of victimization. These findings are not replicated with users of other social networks such as Facebook or Twitter, for example. Therefore, victimization levels are higher on Instagram than on TikTok. Instagram, focused on body image, can lead to mental health problems such as depression and anxiety. On the other hand, TikTok, focused on identity and entertainment, does not foster an environment of criticism for physical appearance.
