With this article, we aim to analyze the Research and Extension Project “Reading, Interpretation, and Drawing” (LID), developed at the Higher Pedagogical School of Bengo, in Angola, whose purpose is also aimed at reconfiguring the teaching of literature in the context of General Education, where it tends to be marginalized when incorporated into the Portuguese Language discipline. The research, of qualitative approach and descriptive-interpretative nature, is based on the analysis of experience reports from questionnaires applied to students within the scope of their teacher training. The theoretical framework draws on contributions from literary theory, reading studies, aesthetic education, and university extension, understanding reading as an aesthetic, cognitive, affective, and social practice. The results show that the project contributed to the development of pedagogical and research skills, to the reconfiguration of teaching and learning conceptions, and to bringing teaching practice closer to a critically and culturally situated perspective. Moreover, the appreciation of the oral tradition literature of Bengo stands out as a strategy to bring closer the school, community, and local culture. It is concluded that the LID Project constitutes a relevant educational experience by articulating teaching, research, and outreach, promoting more contextualized, inclusive, and socially committed pedagogical practices.
