Traditionally, households and the intimacy they provide have been ideal settings for genres of fiction such as melodrama, associated with everything related to the female species. This leads itself to confusion with superficial emotionalisation and distorst the true keys to subjectivity in a more complex reality. This paper analyses the female character associated with three spaces in the home: the kitchen. The approach is based on three films: Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles (1975) by Chantal Akerman, Carmina o revienta (2012) by Paco León, and Muchos hijos, u mono y un castillo (2017) by Gustavo Salmerón. The association of the character type -a type of woman who is in the process of entering or has already entered maturity- with this space, is a constant that has been maintained since 17th-century Dutch painting, which in film representation creates a visual codification in films. In these films, the kitchen is the nucleus that articulates meaning. And therefore, this is not the same, as there are variations such as secular confession, proximity to the viewer, daily habit, family routine and finally repetitive mechanics, a dynamic that borders on the absurd. However in none of these films does the asociation of women and the kitchen align with patriarchal repression or oppression.
