This research analyzed the theoretical and practical knowledge about diversity awareness among students enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in Basic Education. The problem arose from the need for teachers in training to respond to the demands of inclusive education. The methodology was qualitative, with a hermeneutic approach, using focus interviews and documentary analysis. Among the findings, the program offers courses on diversity, but most students do not apply this knowledge in their teaching practices. The conclusion was that classroom experiences allow them to recognize and address diversity, but there are limitations in the conceptualization of the subject.
