    Objectives: to develop a short version of the Cognitive Emotional Regulation Questionnaire (CERQ) and study its reliability and validity. Methods: 395 higher education students (mean age±DP=20.21±4.91 years; 82% female) completed the CERQ-36 and the Profile of Mood States. Results: The Short Version of the CERQ comprises 18 items (CERQ-18). Exploratory factor analysis of the CERQ-18 (varimax rotation) indicated two factors (F): F1 is the positive dimension of cognitive emotion regulation/CER (CERQ-Positive/CERQ-P, VTE=27.53%) and F2 is its negative dimension (CERQ-Negative/CERQ-N, VTE=19.18%). The internal consistency of the CERQ-18 subscales and factors was adequate/high and similar to that of CERQ-36. The test-retest reliability of the scores of the CERQ-18 was moderate/high. The correlations of the Negative and Positive Affect with the CERQ-18 subscales, F1, and F2 had the expected valence and similar magnitude to those obtained with the CERQ-36. Discussion/Conclusion: The preliminary version of the CERQ-18 is reliable and valid, useful to assess CER in college students.

    Objetivos: desenvolver uma versão curta do Questionário de Regulação Emocional Cognitiva (CERQ) e estudar a sua fidelidade e validade. Métodos: 395 estudantes do ensino superior (idade média±DP=20.21±4.91 anos; 82% mulheres) completaram o CERQ-36 e o Perfil dos Estados de Humor. Resultados: A Versão Curta do CERQ compreende 18 itens (CERQ-18). A análise fatorial exploratória do CERQ-18 (rotação varimax) indicou dois fatores (F): F1 é a dimensão positiva da regulação emocional cognitiva/REC (CERQPositiva/CERQ-P, VTE=27.53%) e F2 é a dimensão negativa (CERQ-Negativo/CERQ-N, VTE=19.18%). A consistência interna das subescalas e dos fatores do CERQ-18 foi adequada/elevada e comparável à do CERQ36. A fidelidade teste-reteste das pontuações do CERQ-18 foi moderada/elevada. As correlações do Afeto negativo e positivo com as subescalas do CERQ-18, F1, F2 tiveram a valência esperada e uma magnitude similar às obtidas com o CERQ-36. Discussão/Conclusão: A versão preliminar do CERQ-18 é fidedigna e válida, útil para avaliar a REC nos estudantes universitários
