La satisfacción sexual es un elemento esencial dentro de la salud sexual y que influye en el bienestar y calidad de vida. Esta investigación surge de la necesidad de más estudios que ahonden en este concepto y en las variables asociadas. Se establece como objetivo investigar la relación entre las variables autoestima, autoconcepto y la satisfacción sexual, y las diferencias existentes en función de la edad o el sexo. La muestra está compuesta por 155 participantes de 25 a 50 años; 53% mujeres y 47% hombres. Las pruebas utilizadas son el Inventario de Autoestima Coopersmith (SEI; Coopersmith, 1967), el cuestionario de autoconcepto AF-5 (García y Musitu, 1999) y la New Satisfaction Scale (NSSS; Pérez, 2013). Los resultados muestran una relación positiva del autoconcepto y autoestima con la satisfacción sexual (R2=32,5%; R2=33,5% respectivamente); niveles más altos de satisfacción sexual en las mujeres en comparación con los hombres y la existencia de una relación inversa entre la edad y la satisfacción sexual en los hombres; no así en las mujeres, que mantienen niveles más constantes de satisfacción sexual con la edad.
Sexual satisfaction is an essential element at the heart of sexual health which influences well-being and quality of life. This study arises from the need for more studies that delve into this concept and the associated variables. The objective is to investigate the relationship among the variables self-esteem, self-concept and sexual satisfaction, and the existing differences based on age or sex. The sample consists of 155 participants from 25 to 50 years old; 53% are women and 47% men. They used the Coopersmith Self-Esteem Inventory (SEI; Coopersmith, 1967), the AF-5 (García y Musitu, 1999) and the New Satisfaction Scale (NSSS; Pérez, 2013). Results show a positive relationship between self-concept and self-esteem in relation to sexual satisfaction (R2=32,5%; R2=33,5% respectively); higher levels of sexual satisfaction in women compared to men, and the existence of an inverse relationship between age and sexual satisfaction in men; but not in women, who maintain constant levels of sexual satisfac-tion as their age increase.
