Este artículo presenta los resultados de dos años de investigación sobre las respuestas comunitarias a la COVID-19 en seis barrios de Madrid. De la mano de la antropología de la ciencia y la tecnología, el texto desarrolla el concepto de “ensamblaje comunitario” para complementar y extender los análisis sobre la pandemia que han puesto en valor la importancia del capital social, la resiliencia comunitaria o la participación ciudadana. Describimos tres tipos de ensamblaje (unión, aproximación y vinculación), ilustrándolos con casos de estudio barriales. El estudio de los ensamblajes nos permite poner el foco no sólo en los recursos, relaciones y capacidades que habitan un territorio, sino también en las infraestructuras, protocolos y logísticas que acompañan y apuntalan la sostenibilidad de un ecosistema comunitario.
In this article we present the findings of a two-year research project studying community responses to the COVID-19 pandemic in six neighborhoods in Madrid. Drawing on the theoretical corpus of the anthropology of science, we develop the concept of “community assemblages” to complement and extend analyses of the pandemic that have highlighted the importance of social capital, community resilience and participatory processes. We describe three types of assemblages—bonding, bridging and linking—with examples from our case studies. By focusing on the work of assemblages we draw attention not just to the resources, relations and capacities that operate within a territory, but also to the infrastructures, protocols and logistics that underpin and warrant the sustainability of a community ecosystem.
