Este artículo trata sobre el Primer Congreso Internacional de Psicología del Deporte celebrado en Roma en 1965. Primero, se aborda la organización y los propósitos del congreso. Luego, se comenta de qué trataron los distintos simposios y mesas redondas del evento. Más adelante, se hace foco en la heterogeneidad que caracterizó a los trabajos presentados durante el mismo y se resaltan algunos de los principales desacuerdos entre los congresistas. En los comentarios finales se propone entender la diversidad de propuestas que tuvieron lugar en el congreso como una característica propia de un campo todavía no conformado como tal, a la vez que se pone parcialmente en cuestión que este congreso haya significado el “inicio” como disciplina de la psicología del deporte. Las Actas del Primer Congreso Internacional de Psicología del Deporte de 1965 constituyeron la fuente principal de este trabajo.
This article focuses on the First International Congress of Sport Psychology held in Rome in 1965. First, the organization and aims of the congress are discussed. Then, it reviews what the different symposiums and round tables of the event were about. It then focuses on the heterogeneity that characterized the papers presented during the congress and highlights some of the main disagreements among the congress participants. In the final comments it is proposed to understand the diversity of proposals that took place at the congress as a characteristic of a field not yet formed as such, while at the same time it is partially questioned whether this congress was the “beginning” of sport psychology as a discipline.
