El filme de Robert Bresson Au hasard Balthazar constituye un ejemplo de vía sublimatoria, transformadora por tanto de la energía pulsional. Una lectura que conduzca hacia arriba –anagógica– y que siga el texto al pie de la letra, nos devuelve tanto el recorrido ascensional del asno que da título al filme como el de su protagonista femenina. El filme se revela como una fábula sobre la presencia simbólica de Balthazar, nombre de resonancias regias y mágicas. El asno constituye el auténtico hilo conductor, el testigo encarnado de una conciencia interior. La de Balthazar es una mirada que no obstruye ni retoca lo real, porque su ojo no es, parafraseando al propio Bresson, ni un ojo demasiado pensante ni demasiado inteligente.
Robert Bresson's film Au hasard Balthazar is an example of a sublimatory pathway, that therefore transforms the drive energy. It is a reading that leads upwards –anagogic– and that follows the text to the letter. It returns to us both the ascending journey of the donkey that gives the film its title, and that of its female protagonist. The film reveals itself as a fable about the symbolic presence of Balthazar, a name with regal and magical resonances. The donkey is the real guiding thread, the incarnate witness of an inner conscience. Balthazar's gaze neither obstructs nor retouches the real, because his eye is, to paraphrase Bresson himself, neither too thoughtful nor too intelligent.
