La comunicación “Este es mi Pueblo”, quiere compartir la experiencia que durante dos años ha supuesto la apertura y puesta en marcha de la Residencia AFANIAS Torrelaguna, un Hogar para Personas con disCAPACIDAD intelectual o del desarrollo mayores de 45 años (muchas de ellas con graves afectaciones), ubicada en la localidad de Torrelaguna, población de 5000 habitantes, perteneciente a la Comarca de la Sierra Norte de Madrid. Desde su inicio tuvimos que conciliar y congeniar diferentes aspectos que podían suponer una amenaza o una oportunidad para todas las personas que iban a convivir en ella: a) El concepto en sí de la palabra residencia, tanto como una estructura física, como la imagen subjetiva que genera; b) la convivencia de 48 “Personas mayores jubiladas, con mucho tiempo libre y de ocio que disfrutar de forma inclusiva e integrada en la nueva comunidad que les acogía” y 36 profesionales que les apoyarían en su día a día; c) además, la realidad de que a la mayoría de Ellos no se les tuvo en cuenta para venir a vivir aquí. Todo esto nos llevó a seguir 4 líneas de trabajo: 1) La necesidad de que la residencia se convirtiera en una casa, un hogar. 2) La necesidad de una participación real en el entorno. Teníamos claro que no queríamos ser una residencia, sino unos vecinos más de hecho y pleno derecho. 3) La necesidad de disfrutar su ocio y tiempo libre. 4) La necesidad del cuestionamiento continuo del trabajo realizado, sin olvidar que son Ellos quienes deciden.
The “This is my Village” communication aims at sharing the last two years of experience that setting up Torrelaguna Residence meant for AFANIAS, a home for people with developmental or intellectual disABILITIES of over 45 years of age (many of whom have serious limitations), located in the town of Torrelaguna, population of 5000 inhabitants, in the northern area of Madrid. From the beginning, we had to reconcile and address different aspects that could suppose a threat or an opportunity for all the people who went to live in it: a) The very concept of the word residence, both as a physical structure and as a subjective image that was generated. b) The coexistence of 48 “older retired people who had plenty of free time and leisure activities to enjoy in an inclusive and integrated way into the new, community that received them” and 36 professionals who would support them in their day to day life. c) The reality that most of them were not considering to come and live there. All this lead us to follow four lines of work: 1) The need that the residence should become a home. 2) The need for a real participation in the environment. We had quite a clear idea that we didn’t want to be just a conventional residence, but rather part of this neighborhood. 3) The need to enjoy leisure activities and free time. 4) The need of a continuous evaluation of the work done, without forgetting that they are the ones who decide about their lives.
