Presento un texto en torno al tema de la representación de la belleza, el erotismo y la transgresión en el cine de Julio Medem partiendo del análisis de Habitación en Roma (2010). Trata el film de una relación homosexual femenina. Desde la perspectiva de la Teoría del Texto reflexionaré sobre este film que me conmueve, y, siguiendo a González Requena, creo que cuando algo nos afecta profundamente, hunde sus raíces en lo inconsciente. Creo que el concepto más abstracto de belleza femenina deriva de la representación en imágenes de la mujer: es un constructo cultural. A la vez el artista intenta dar forma a este concepto. El deseo y el amor nos conducen tanto con la mirada pasional como con la mirada amable quizás a un más allá de la belleza, o a otro saber acerca de la ella.
I present a text about the topic of the representation of beauty, erotism and transgression in Julio Medem’s cinema starting from the analysis of Room in Rome (2010). The film’s plot is about a feminine homosexual relationship.
From the perspective of the Text theory I will reflect on how this film that moves me, since following González Requena I believe that when feeling extremely affected by something it is rooted in the unconscious. I consider that the most abstract concept about feminine beauty derives from the representation of the woman’s images: it is a cultural construct. At the same time, the artist attempts to shape such a concept. Desire and love lead us with a passionate gaze as well as with a kind one, perhaps beyond beauty, or to another sort of knowledge about it.
