En el presente trabajo se muestra una breve revisión bibliográfica sobre el concepto de falso self, desarrollado por D. Winnicott en 1965. Se describe al Yo, instancia psíquica descrita por Freud en 1923 y se incluye la definición de self. Winnicott describe al falso self (medio de no ser uno mismo) como una distorsión de la personalidad que consiste en desarrollar desde la infancia una existencia ilusoria con el fin de proteger, por medio de una organización defensiva, al verdadero self; plantea cinco niveles del falso self ubicando en uno de ellos a la patología esquizoide, en la que el falso self se establece como única realidad. Explica el papel de la madre y su influencia en la formación de esta organización defensiva e introduce términos como holding y madre suficientemente buena. Además, señala las dificultades en la relación terapéutica con pacientes que poseen falso self y propone alternativas para el tratamiento. Al final, se ejemplifica la instauración del falso self en un niño de 6 años de edad y se muestran algunas reflexiones e implicaciones en la clínica psicoanalítica actual.
This work shows a short reference about the ‘false self’ concept, developed by D. Winnicott in 1965. It describes the Ego, a psychical instance described by Freud in 1923, and includes the definition of 'self'. Winnicott describes the 'false self' (a way of not being yourself) as a distortion of the personality that consist in developed an illusory existence since the childhood in order to protect the 'true self' through a defensive organization. It lays five levels of 'false self', setting in one of them the schizoid pathology, where 'false self' is placed as the unique reality. It explains the mother's role and its influence in the formation of this defensive organization; and introduces terms like ‘holding’ and ‘mother good enough’. It also points out the difficulties in the therapeutic relationship with patients having false self and proposes alternatives for treatment.Finally, is exemplified a 'false self' implant in a 6 years old child; and it shows some reflections and implications for the current psychoanalytic clinic
