Pre-therapy training has been used to prepare clients for individual, group, and family psychotherapy/counseling. Among the most popular pre-therapy or pretraining methods used are the Role Induction Interview and the Vicarius Therapy Pretraining. Most of the pre-therapy trainings reported in the literature made use of brief interventions, which fluctuated bewteen 45 seconds and 90 minutes, given to clients prior to their first psychotherapy session. The research findings in the area of pre-therapy training have shown conflicting results. However, they suggest that the Role Induction Interview and the Vicarious Therapy Pretraining are usually effective facilitators of the therapeutic process.
