El presente artículo describe la evolución histórica el concepto de Trastorno por Déficit de Atención e Hiperactividad (TDAH). Comenzando por anécdotas históricas relacionadas con este trastorno, se analizan los constructos progresivos de déficit de control moral, disfunción/lesión cerebral mínima, hiperactividad y déficit de atención hasta las actuales definiciones y sistemas de clasificación en el contexto de las corrientes científicas y culturales de cada momento. El concepto actual de TDAH se fundamenta en una evolución desde observaciones al menos tan antiguas como otros trastornos psiquiátricos, aunque no está libre de controversias científicas y culturales.
The present review describes the historic evolution of the concept of Attention Deficit with Hyperactivity (ADHD). Starting with the Historic anecdotes, we analyse the progressive constructs of defect of moral control, minimal brain dysfunction/ damage, hyperactivity and attention deficit, until the current definitions and classification systems. The review ahs been performed in the context of the cultural and scientific trends of each Historical period. ADHD current concept is based in a progressive development from clinical observations that are, at least, as old as in other psychiatric disorders, although it is not free of scientific and cultural controversies
