Winds are climate and weather modifying factors, having a strong influence on the flora, fauna and human activities. The wind characterization is extremely important to understand the interaction relationships between the environment and people. Characterizations of winds were done in Humaitá and Apuí cities, both located in the south of Amazon state. The research was carried out using meteorological data from weather stations which belong to the National Institute of Meteorology - INMET and is installed in each of the cities. The data had been collected hourly during several months throughout the dry and rainy season, in the year of 2008. Was observed that the wind speed and direction almost do not varies throughout the study periods in both regions. It is remarkable that the speed was higher in the dry than in the rainy season and that Humaitá had registered wind speeds slightly higher than Apuí while the direction was pretty much the same.
Ventos são fatores modificadores do clima e do tempo tendo uma forte influencia na fauna, flora e nas atividades humanas. A caracterização do regime de ventos é de suma importância para compreendermos as relações de interação entre o meio ambiente e as pessoas. Esta caracterização de ventos foi feita nos munícios de Humaitá e Apuí, ambos localizados no sul do Amazonas. A pesquisa foi realizada utilizando os dados das estações meteorológicas do Instituto Nacional de Meteorologia - INMET instaladas em cada um dos municípios. Foram coletadas informações de hora em hora em diversos meses no período seco e chuvoso, no ano de 2008. A partir dos dados obtidos, notou-se que a velocidade e direção dos ventos pouco variaram entre os períodos mencionados em ambos os municípios. Salienta-se que a velocidade no período seco foi maior do que no período chuvoso e o município de Humaitá teve velocidades do vento um pouco superiores do que Apuí, enquanto a direção foi praticamente a mesma.
