This review article addresses the academic debate about affirmative action, specifically in regard to racial quotas, which were created and adopted by some Brazilian federal universities, aiming at the minimization of social inequalities, latent in the Brazilian reality. Thus, revisits, without exhausting the subject, some theoretical and ideological positions. Among the poor, 63% are black, for they represent indigent 71% (IBGE, 2000). Therefore, policies that will fix this discrepancy deserve reflection and debate around it. Finally, positions itself as comprehensive theory about the subject
O presente artigo de revisão aborda o debate acadêmico acerca das políticas de ação afirmativa, especificamente no que se refere às cotas raciais, que foram criadas e adotadas por algumas Universidades Federais Brasileiras, visando à minimização das desigualdades sociais, latente na realidade brasileira. Dessa forma, revisita, sem esgotar o tema, algumas posturas teórico-ideológicas. Dentre os pobres, 63% são negros, em relação aos indigentes estes representam 71% (IBGE, 2000). Portanto, políticas que venham reparar tal discrepância merecem reflexão e debate em seu torno. Por fim, posiciona-se teoricamente acerca de tão abrangente tema.
