En la imaginación del público de nuestra época, ciencia y tecnología parecen ser una sola cosa: proveedoras de instrumentos complejos, frecuentemente incomprendidos, que facilitan o hacen más interesantes nuestras vidas. Sin embargo, se trata de dos empresas que, si bien se relacionan de diversas formas, responden a orígenes diferentes, a intereses distintos, a formas diferentes de funcionamiento, y muestran una dependencia mutua. En este trabajo se analizan las diferencias entre ciencia y tecnología, entre investigación básica y aplicaciones, sus limitaciones y las formas en que ellas interactúan para resolver problemas de interés para la sociedad, en particular, en la psicología.
In today's public imagination, science and technology appear to be the same single matter. They are believed to provide complex instruments to make our lives easier and more interesting. They are, however, two enterprises that relate to each other in different ways, but come from different origins, respond to different interests and work differently.
This paper analyzes the differences between science and technology, between basic and applied research, their limits, and the ways in which they interact to solve problems of interest to society, especially in the area of Psychology.
