This paper presents a summary of the main laboratory research on prospective memory or remembering to do things. After reviewing the practical importance of this memory, its specific aspects are shown through a task analysis. Then, we present the factors of prospective memory that have been studied with widely used experimental paradigms. Developmental aspects are examined and conclusions are drawn on the relationship between prospective and retrospective memory.
