Se hace un breve resumen sobre el cambio operado en los últimos años en la comprensión de los trastornos que presentan las personas con discapacidad intelectual. Se refieren algunos modelos asistenciales, para centrarse en el modelo de atención especializada en Cataluña y describir la experiencia en la región sanitaria de Tarragona, dando datos de la actividad en su corto periodo de funcionamiento. En las conclusiones se valora el avance en el conocimiento de las personas con diagnóstico dual, la mejora en la calidad y accesibilidad a su tratamiento, la idoneidad de los nuevos recursos especializados y la importancia del trabajo en red en estas personas en situaciones de alta complejidad.
In this paper we expose a brief summary about the changes carried out during the last few years in the understanding of mental disorders in patients/people with intellectual disability. We take into account some of the attendance models in order to point out the specialized attention model developed in Catalonia and to describe the experience in the health region of Tarragona, giving data of the activity in the short period of operation. We conclude with the advances in the knowledge and treatment of the people with dual diagnosis, the improvement in the quality and accessibility to treatment, the suitability of the new specialized resources and the importance of the work in net with these people of high complexity.
