This study is aimed at testing discriminative validity of an scale of sense of community already used for comparing two urban communities chosen because of their marked social and community differences, through two representative samples of 481 and 260 participants.
Differences found in the level of sense of community and participation and constancy of factor structure (shown by similarity of main and other factors in spite of differences on minor factors) confirm discriminative validity of the scale. Sense of community is high and participation very low in both communities.
