Lo más visible de la violencia de género es la situación de víctima de la mujer. Lo más impactante es la brutalidad que sufre y la pérdida de oportunidades que ello acarrea. Sin cuestionar que la violencia de género se sustenta sobre la base de un sistema social de estructura patriarcal, no debemos pasar por alto que existen factores que trascienden lo estrictamente sociológico. Desde mi experiencia como psicóloga clínica observo la interacción entre factores de estructura social y de estructura de personalidad. Si insistimos en que son exclusivamente factores externos los que están en juego convertimos a las mujeres en víctimas pasivas desamparadas ante un mundo hostil que no pueden modificar. Si, por el contrario, posibilitamos la toma de conciencia de su implicación personal en como se fraguan esas relaciones, transmitimos esperanza y abrimos una vía para que puedan defenderse, independizarse y establecer relaciones no abusivas con otras personas.
The most visible face of gender violence is the position of the woman as a victim. The most shocking fact is the brutality she suffers and the loss of opportunities that it entails. It is out of the question that gender violence is based upon a patriarchal structured social system, however we can�t overlook the influence of factors outside the sociological field. From my experience as a clinical psychologist, I see the interaction between social and personality aspects. If we insist on considering that only external factors matter, we turn women into passive victims helpless in a hostile world they can�t change. On the other hand, if we promote the assumption of their personal participation in the setting of these relationships, we give them hope and we open a way towards learning to defend themselves that leads to independence and to the chance of stablishing non abusive relationships with others.
