Tras los problemas surgidos con el PCTA como predictor de la ECC, el complejo irahostilidad, parte integrante de dicho patrón, emergió como el verdadero factor de riesgo cardiovascular. El complejo ira-hostilidad es un constructo multidimensional cuyas relaciones con la ECC no están plenamente aclaradas. El presente trabajo ha pretendido profundizar en esa dirección, estudiando la relación entre la hostilidad y el colesterol sérico total, como uno de los mecanismos explicativos posibles de su conexión con la ECC. En el presente trabajo se han encontrado diferencias significativas (p < 0.05) en el nivel de colesterol total entre los grupos de sujetos con alta y baja Expresión de la Hostilidad, tal que éstos últimos presentan los niveles superiores de colesterol sérico total, y por otro lado. No se encontraron diferencias en relación a la Hostilidad Neurótica. Estos resultados apoyan trabajos anteriores. También ha sido posible discriminar perfectamente entre sujetos con niveles altos y bajos de colesterol total en base los items del Inventario de Hostilidad de Buss-Durkee.
After the problems emerged with the Type A Behavior Pattern (TABP) as a predictor of Coronary Heart Disease (CHD), the angerhostility complex, an integrating part of said standard, emerged as the real risk factor of CHD. The anger-hostility complex is a multidimensional construct whose relationships to CHD are not fully clarified. The present work has intended to deepen in that address, studying the relationship between the hostility and the serum total cholesterol, as one of the possible explanatory mechanisms of its connection with the CHD. In the present work have been found meaningful differences (p < 0.05) in the total serum cholesterol level between the groups of subjects with high and low Expressed Hostility, such that these last present the higher levels of cholesterol. They were not found differences in relationship to Neurotic Hostility. These results support previous reports. Also it has been possible to discriminate perfectly between subjects with high and low levels of total cholesterol in base the items of the Buss-Durkee Hostility Inventory.
