Currently, one in four young people worldwide feels very lonely, and a high percentage fear being alone. Moreover, various studies have found that loneliness is directly associated with emotional dependence and inversely with subjective well-being (“happiness”). For this reason, the present study aimed to determine whether there is a significant relationship between perceived loneliness, fear of loneliness, emotional dependence, and subjective well-being in 396 young university students from Metropolitan Lima. The students were administered the De Jong-Gierveld Loneliness Scale (DJGLS), the Brief Fear of Loneliness Scale (BSFL), the Emotional Dependence Questionnaire (CDE), and the Subjective Well-Being Scale (SWB). The study was conducted using a quantitative approach, a hypothetical-deductive method, a basic type of research, a non-experimental design, a correlational level, and a cross-sectional approach. It was concluded that there is a moderate positive correlation between perceived loneliness, fear of loneliness, and emotional dependence, and a slight moderate negative correlation between these three variables and subjective well-being in university students from Metropolitan Lima.
