This paper reflects on what Silva (2022, 2024a, 2024b) has termed the “Narrative of the Conquest of the Amazon” in literature. To this end, it analyzes how the novel A Profecia da Cobra Grande ou A Transamazônica, written by Zuleika Mello in 1972, is connected to a recurring narrative found in twentieth-century state initiatives in the Amazon, characterized by the discourse of National Integration and the symbolic domination of nature and the rainforest. The study is based on bibliographical and documentary sources, including reports published in Manchete magazine, literary and essayistic works on the Amazon, such as Inferno Verde (Green Hell) by Alberto Rangel (2008) and À Margem da História (On the Margins of History) by Euclides da Cunha (2006), as well as studies by Silva (2021, 2022, 2023, 2024a, 2024b, 2025). The analysis revealed that Zuleika Mello’s work incorporates mythical elements of Amazonian culture, re-signified to legitimize the project of conquest and occupation of the region, thereby reinforcing a discourse of integration imposed by the State.
