This article analyzes the creation of the Campaign of the Inmates, established in 1948 through the partnership between the Casa de Detenção de Natal (CDN) and the Escola Industrial de Natal (EIN), within the context of prison and educational policies in Rio Grande do Norte. Inserted in the field of the History of Vocational and Prison Education, the investigation is part of a Scientific Initiation (IC) project at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) and is based on sources such as reports from the Legislative Assembly, governmental acts, and periodicals, especially O Diário de Natal. The study engages with Freitas (2024), regarding the trajectory of the EIN, and with Foucault (2014), by articulating concepts such as discipline, labor, and the universal pedagogy of labor. The results indicate that the Campaign represented a pioneering initiative in the institutionalization of prison vocational education, mobilizing different social actors for the reintegration of inmates, though marked by disciplinary and utilitarian purposes.
Este artigo analisa a criação da Campanha dos Detentos, instituída em 1948 pela parceria entre a Casa de Detenção de Natal (CDN) e a Escola Industrial de Natal (EIN), no contexto das políticas carcerárias e educacionais do Rio Grande do Norte. Inserida no campo da História da Educação Profissional e Carcerária, a investigação integra projeto de Iniciação Científica (IC) da UFRN e fundamenta-se em fontes como relatórios da Assembleia Legislativa, atos governamentais e periódicos, em especial O Diário de Natal. O estudo dialoga com Freitas (2024), acerca da trajetória da EIN, e com Foucault (2014), ao articular conceitos como disciplina, trabalho e pedagogia universal do trabalho. Os resultados apontam que a Campanha representou iniciativa pioneira na institucionalização do ensino profissional prisional, mobilizando diferentes atores sociais em prol da reinserção dos detentos, ainda que marcada por finalidades disciplinares e utilitaristas.
