I will present some reflections on childhood sexual abuse, especially those suffered by former boarding school students. This traumatic event affects individuals differently, whether it is a single experience or occurs repeatedly. When the abuse is a unique, isolated incident, it strikes the child and, like any trauma, causes disorientation and confusion, leaving deep and lasting marks. In cases where the trauma is repeated, amidst that traumatic confusion, the child is subjected to an experience that subjugates them. It is a sexual enjoyment imposed without their consent, that leads the child to experience a new and unexpected form of satisfaction. The repeated satisfaction induces them to enjoy it, to repeat the act, and ultimately to develop a facilitated neural pathway —not toward the symptom, but toward the enjoyment («jouissance») itself.
