Una temprana identificación de las personas con dificultades lectoras, y una intervención adecuada, reducirían el fracaso posterior y mejorarían sus habilidades lectoras. Ciertos instrumentos de identificación miden el riesgo/probabilidad de que vayan a surgir problemas con la lectura. En este artículo se comentan algunos aspectos en cuanto a los índices más importantes de las medidas identificadoras, es decir, su precisión predictora, su sensibilidad, y su especificidad. A pesar de las excelentes investigaciones en este terreno, la construcción de un procedimiento identificador eficaz, y aceptado generalmente, sigue siendo un reto científico.
Early identification of problem readers and appropriate interventions would reduce subsequent failure and would enhance reading skills. Screening instruments measure the risk/probability that reading problems will occur. In this article we discuss certain aspects with regard to the most important indices of screening measures: predictive accuracy, sensitivity and specificity. Despite the existence of excellent research in the area, development of a widely accepted, effective screening procedure continues be a scientific challenge.
