Psychoanalysis, aware of the dark face of institutional imperatives and interested in subjective responsibility, can be a compass that guides in the case by case and, from that place of excellence, might favour another possible insertion of the subject in the social bond.A brief critical analysis of penitentiary treatment, in the light of analytical discourse, fra-mes the author ́s journey through different prisons over thirty-five years. Docile to the words of prisoners, she has allowed herself to be taught by them; in this paper she tries to account for this by rescuing some passages of her praxis
