In order to obtain information about the long-term repercussions of terrorist acts, the general mental health and quality of life of persons affected were assessed. Demographic characteristics, characteristics of the terrorist event, and assistance afforded the victim were assayed. A total of 750 questionnaires, including the General Health Questionnaire and the Life Quality Questionnaire, were mailed to victims and their family members, all members of the Association of Victims of Terrorism, of which 451 (60.1%) were returned, 434 completed fully. Victims and their family members report significantly poorer quality of life, and experience psychopathologies at a significantly greater rate that the Spanish population in general.
