Abstract The present chapter aims to delineate the main elements of the clinical rationality that Freud elaborated during the 1890s to later theorize on anxiety according to psychoanalysis in the twentieth century. The chapter will demonstrate that the dominance of the affective life over the psychic representations and the notion of defense are not only indispensable elements to the Freudian approach on anxiety but they were also clearly rehabilitated by Freud in the psychoanalytic theory on anxiety.
Resumo Este artigo objetiva delinear os principais elementos da racionalidade clínica que Freud elaborou durante a década de 1890 para teorizar sobre a angústia a partir da psicanálise durante o século XX. Será demonstrado que a soberania da vida afetiva sobre as representações psíquicas e a noção de defesa são elementos não apenas necessários para a abordagem freudiana sobre a angústia, mas também claramente reabilitados por Freud na solidificação da teoria psicanalítica sobre a angústia.
