ABSTRACT This article deals with the importance of studying the proper name, its meaning, the act of naming and the place from which it is named. It talks about the parents’ desires and narcissism and the family myths in the name choice. It runs over the appropriation of the name, the renaming, the importance of using the letters of the name in the acquisition of children’s writing and the signature as a particular mark of the writing of the name. It points to the impossibility of getting rid of a name given by the Other.
Resumo Este artigo trata da importância do estudo do nome próprio, do seu significado, do ato da nomeação e do lugar de onde se nomeia. Fala dos desejos e do narcisismo dos pais e dos mitos familiares na escolha do nome. Discorre sobre a apropriação do nome, as renomeações, a importância do uso das letras do nome na aquisição da escrita infantil e a assinatura como uma marca particular da escrita do nome. Aponta para a impossibilidade de desfazer-se de um nome dado pelo Outro.
