In this study, we describe the use of WhatsApp application to support learning an undergraduate Psychology course taught online during the Covid-19 pandemic, and we compare their learning results to those of other face-to-face classes. The research is a case study, descriptive and exploratory, with a mixed approach and data collection from primary and secondary sources. The authors carried out a descriptive statistical analysis of the content of interviews and 2. 62 thousand messages published on WhatsApp. The analysis pointed out an increase in student participation in the class application group with a predominance of socio-affective interactions, instructions on the subject, and positive reactions from learners. The learning results of the online class are similar to those of face-to-face ones. Communication applications can strengthen the teaching and learning of subjects taught remotely, bring students and teachers closer together, and improve the instructional design of subjects.
Neste estudo, descrevemos o uso do aplicativo WhatsApp como suporte à aprendizagem de uma disciplina de graduação em Psicologia, ministrada online, durante a pandemia da Covid-19; e comparamos seus resultados de aprendizagem ao de outras turmas presenciais. A pesquisa é um estudo de caso, descritivo e exploratório, de abordagem mista e coleta de dados oriunda de fontes primárias e secundárias. Os autores realizaram análises estatísticas descritivas, do conteúdo de entrevistas e de 2,62 mil mensagens publicadas no WhatsApp. As análises mostraram incremento na participação dos estudantes no grupo do aplicativo da turma; com predomínio de interações socioafetivas, instruções sobre a disciplina e reações positivas dos aprendizes. Os resultados de aprendizagem da turma online assemelham-se aos de turmas presenciais. O uso de aplicativos de comunicação pode fortalecer o ensino e a aprendizagem de disciplinas ministradas remotamente, aproximar estudantes de docentes e aprimorar o desenho instrucional das disciplinas.
