  This article aims to reflect the process of the scientific method and its contribution to research production. Science has as its fundamental objective to reach the veracity of facts. In this sense, science is indistinguishable from other forms of knowledge. What makes scientific knowledge different from others, however, is that it has as its fundamental characteristic the development of research. For a knowledge to be considered scientific, it is necessary to identify the mental and technical operations that make its verification possible. In other words, the method that made it possible to arrive at this knowledge must be determined. So we can ask: what is the purpose of science? Its only end is knowledge, objective truth.   Este artigo quer refletir o processo do método científico e sua contribuição na produção da pesquisa. A Ciência tem como objetivo fundamental chegar à veracidade dos fatos. Nesse sentido, a ciência não se distingue de outras formas de conhecimento. O que torna, porém, o conhecimento científico distinto dos demais é que possui como característica fundamental o desenvolvimento da pesquisa. Para que um conhecimento possa ser considerado científico, torna-se necessário identificar as operações mentais e técnicas que possibilitam a sua verificação. Em outras palavras, deve-se determinar o método que possibilitou chegar a esse conhecimento. Assim, podemos perguntar: qual o objetivo da ciência? Seu único fim é o conhecimento, a verdade objetiva. Acreditava-se que o método experimental seja o método mais eficiente e seguro de se chegar ao conhecimento, porém, para cada ciência pode-se ter métodos específicos.
