El objetivo de este trabajo es presentar algunas evidencias que muestran la relevancia del amor en nuestras vidas y su carácter fuertemente generizado así como la relación entre el amor romántico y sus mitos y la violencia contra las mujeres en la pareja. Se analiza cómo la aceptación de ideas distorsionadas sobre el amor y los mitos del amor romántico conduciría a tolerar/aceptar esta violencia, y constituiría un predictor para la victimización y la perpetración de algunas de sus diferentes formas. Para este análisis se adopta una perspectiva de género y feminista, que muestra cómo el amor romántico y sus mitos reproducen el orden social patriarcal y desempeñan un papel en la génesis y mantenimiento de la subordinación de las mujeres y también de la violencia basada en el género que se ejerce contra ellas. En este contexto, queda pues patente la necesidad de modelos de amor y relacionales alternativos.
The objective of this paper is to present some evidence that shows the relevance of love in our lives and its strongly gendered character, as well as the relationship between romantic love and its myths and intimate partner violence against women. Thus, we analyze how the acceptance of distorted ideas about love and the myths of romantic love would lead to tolerating/accepting this violence and would constitute a predictor for victimization and perpetration of some of its different forms.For this analysis, a gender and feminist perspective is adopted, which shows how romantic love, and its myths reproduce the patriarchal social order and play a role in the genesis and maintenance of the subordination of women and also of gender-based violence that is exercised against them. In this context, the need for alternative love and relational models becomes evident.
